Is it possible to repair or rebuild a carberator or do you have to repace it?

Christopher Tracy Christopher Tracy @AutoBoy 01:27:03 07.06.2013

It would probably be best if you just purchased a new one. If you're looking into buying a Carb Kit for it and installing it yourself, there's a lot of work involved depending on your level of experience.

Yeah I may just have to break down and get a new one. I'm a little too busy at work and don't have allot of free time right now.

I agree with AutoBoy, easier to just get a new one, unless your just a serious auto buff and like doing that type of thing. If you want to do it your self, try Auto Zone or O'reilly Auto Parts

I have been having trouble starting my car. It was suggested to change my car battery, as we found out it wasn't holding a charge anymore. I got a brand new battery, but I'm still having the same issue starting my car! What do you think it could be?

Richard Richard @CarMan 04:33:34 04.06.2013

Alternator can sometimes have a diode failure and this will allow power to continually drain away giving a flat battery, which leads to sluggish starts or no starts at all.
1. Start by checking all battery connections are clean and secure.
2. Fluid level in battery is OK? ( should cover internal plates by around 4-9 mm of distilled water)
3. If you have replaced your battery and have performed items 1-2 from above, check your Alternator. You could have a bad Alternator.

Good Luck

Recently I recharged my car's AC and added Freon, but I find my car is not getting cool when I switch ON my AC. What could be the problem? Please share your views.

Thanks!

Jasper Johnson Jasper Johnson @AmericaMuscle 03:56:10 04.06.2013

If you have refilled / recharged your AC system recently, and find yourself needing a recharge again today, you might want to check it for leaks. Also if you have recharged it, added Freon and after a day or two, it's still not blowing cool air this could be a sign of a leak as well.

Make sure your a/c compressor turns on, when you switch a/c button.

You also need to be sure your car uses the newer R134 (not the older R12 refrigerant). The best way to determine this is to check your car's owners manual. You can also call your local auto parts store and they can look it up for you.

Hi,

My sideview mirror was knocked off when I bumbed into another vehicle. The mirror itself works just fine. But the casing around the mirror has detached from the car and is hanging off. How do I fix this?

Алексей Алексей @Soundstream 04:04:16 04.06.2013

Mirror replacement only! No other options.

Yep, I agree with @Sounstream! If you go directly to the dealer where you purchased the car it may be a bit more expensive. Try a local auto body shop that either specializes or does body & mechanical work on your particular make and model of car. They tend to be less expensive than going "Direct To Dealer".

Benjamin,

You need a complete assembly my friend. If your side mirror assembly has been completely broken off, your mechanic or body shop needs to replace your mirror and the outer casing that attaches it to the door.

Hey have any of you used OODLE to purchase a used car? http://cars.oodle.com (They supposedly sell cars all over the U.S.) I'm thinking of using the site and just wanted some feedback.

Storm Storm @Storm 15:19:28 30.05.2013

here no one is watching car sales sites that are in the USA

No @ILoveCars I haven't, but I heard about it, just never took the time to check it out.
Thanks for the headsup. As long as your not spamming us, come back and let us know your experience. Are you having mechanical issues with your current car, is this why your looking for a new one? If so, post your repair issues, there's a few car guys here and they may be able to help you out.

I'm about to purchase a car and would like something that can get me to and from work, school and practice. I need something that can carry allot of stuff! I need something that can handle the heat.

My parent's budget is 3-5k, and we would like the car not to have no more than 85k miles.

Any ideas???

Laters...

Sam Sam @ILoveCars 06:11:16 30.05.2013

Hey Mega SOS community!

We have this debate going on in my Auto Shop class at my High school. It's about low profile tires Vs. regular tires. Does anyone know if Low Profile tires wear out at twice the speed of regular tires? Fact or fiction?

I don't want an opinion or guess, but some hard cold facts. Please help me out with some good data. I want to impress my class and my teacher, plus we have to give a quick presentation based on our research.

Thanks!

Richard Richard @CarMan 04:57:27 04.06.2013

Well if the same driver, using the same car to test each set of tires, were to drive on the same exact roads, the same distance, under the exact same conditions and braking & stopping exactly the same way....The low profiles would wear away faster as they have less rubber.

After interviews with oil experts, mechanics and automakers, one thing is clear: The 3,000-mile oil change is a myth that should be poured out with the dirty oil! New data shows that changing your oil this often wastes both oil and money, while compounding the environmental impact of illicit waste-oil dumping.

Oil has changed quite a bit in the last 30 years. Among 2013 makes & models, the majority of automobile manufacturers call for oil changes at either 7,500 or 10,000 miles based on norma...

I would keep the interval as a car manufacturer says but no longer. Changing your oil more often for the car you love will not hurt it.

Chekmate, Mr. @AutoBoy!

Sky Sky @Sky 04:49:27 30.05.2013

I wouldn't say checkmate at all.

Who's to say how many miles were put on those engines in @sinsin's pics. 15k, 25k, 30? My posts are about helping people find a balance between good automotive care & maintenance and also saving their hard earned money from unnecessary expenses. I could change my oil, every 1,500 miles, it would be great for my car, but a total waist of time money. Notice in my post I said, "After interviews with experts", the key word being "experts". Is @sinsin an who...

QUESTION:
Is there much difference in the quality between off-brand cheap gas and premium fuel from major gasoline companies?

ANSWER:
Stop worrying about using cheap gas. Most experts say it's not likely to hurt your vehicle at all. All gas is pretty much the same product when you break it down. What makes expensive gas more expensive is NOT the quality, but the additional additives added to it. Additives are said to provide additional engine protection to your car. Expensive gas, simply m...

I agree with @Soundstream. Maybe somewhere in US there's no BIG difference, but most of the times there is. My recommendation - try to fill your car always at the same place you trust. Even right before going on a long trip - get a full tank.

Getting a cheap fuel at some unknown off-brand place can get you into serious trouble with an engine.

Hi @Soundstream...Can you say "Anger Management"? Relax man, we all love cars here. We're here to just have friendly chat, learn, educate, inform and help one another...Lol

To my friend @sinsin...Yes I am referring to American gas chains, as this is where I am located. I believe American standards tend to be a little higher than in allot of other countries. Some of the more popular Gas Stations in America are Chevron/Shell/Texaco/Arco/Exxon/Valero,etc. Basically, all companies start with the of...

Hi @Sky! But in Russia where i am and most of "Megasos" comunity located is different! So if you don't want to kill either your engine or fuel system, you shouldn't put cheap gas in your car any way! So saing that "angry way" i tried to warn all the beginners and keep them away...
